EV Receipts

Description

It is the Charge Point Operator's responsibility to provide a receipt when the cardholder asks for it. Payter provide all the data needed to create a comprehensive payment receipt, returning it to the Charge Controller when the card is read, the payment is authorized, and the session is committed or canceled. The Charge Controller, Operator, or other 3rd party integrated solution, can then augment a full goods/tax receipt to include additional payment related data and make that available to the driver by various means.

Dependencies

The Charge Controller must have captured and stored the relevant receipt data from Payter terminal integrated messages and responses. The Charge Controller must have a host webservice (or 3rd party solution) that allows a validated user to view and/or download receipt data/images/documents.

Details

Receipting occurs at the end of a transaction, and should be available whether a payment has been successful or not. In all cases, an e-receipt is considered best practice as physical, printed, receipts create points of failure and require servicing that is usually outside the scope of a remote EV Charger. The Charge Controller needs to provide a means by which the cardholder can be validated to the Controllers website, so that the e-receipt can be downloaded. These are the main options for this validation being used today:

Dynamic QR Code

A QR code is displayed that, when scanned by a driver’s device, takes the driver to the specific page where their receipt is viewable.

Best Practice - Recommended

Fixed QR Code

A QR code is displayed, plus a reference that the driver must enter to see their specific receipt.

Receipt Image Only

You display a receipt image or text on screen and the driver can take a picture of it. Optionally, and using your own interface only, you can opt for this image/receipt to be sent to a supplied email address.

There are other variations available following combinations of these and other elements, but the key requirement is that Controllers or Operators need to provide the receipt when it is requested. Storing the receipt is the cardholder’s responsibility.

When to Provide the Receipt

Drivers often simply want to cease charging and leave the charging bay as soon as they can. It is considered best practice therefore to provide a Dynamic QR Code immediately after authorisation that provides near real-time updates on the current session, with a receipt available when charging is finalised.

Where this real-time data is not available or not wanted, we would still recommend providing the QR code at this early stage, with a “Refresh later for your receipt” page on a browser.

Both these approaches give the charge point operator the opportunity to provide links to user registration or app download links that are considered beneficial.

Payter can provide further details on receipting requirements upon request.
