Autoscan & Pulse

This documentation contains useful information and guidance to setup an “Autoscan” terminal. We will begin with a brief overview of Autoscan, including some of its configurations and its integration with Pulse - a widely used combination. Afterward, we will go into more detail about Autoscan and Pulse settings, showing you how to customize an Autoscan terminal to suit your specific requirements.

What Is Autoscan?

Autoscan is a terminal mode that configures the device to operate independently. This means it doesn't rely on any other host device, such as a vending machine controller or cloud server, to carry out transactions. Autoscan is used by many providers of forecourt services such as air/water dispensers, but it is equally well-suited to donation/charity and other fixed-price requirements.

Autoscan can be employed to signal other machines that a payment was successfully made and/or that a given option was selected by the user on the configurable user-interface (Apollo family only), by generating a series of pulses mimicking the action of a coin collector.

Autoscan Configurations

Autoscan offers a wide range of configuration options, examples include:

  • Display a selection screen allowing customers to choose between various options or products.

  • Present a welcome screen with language selection (Apollo family only)

  • Set a fixed price, keeping the terminal always ready to accept a card and process a payment for that price.

For a comprehensive overview of all settings, please refer to Apollo Autoscan Settings or P6X Autoscan Settings as applicable.

Pulse

Pulse is an enhancement for any Autoscan terminal, granting the terminal the capability to mimic a coin collector by sending a simple electronic signal to another device upon the completion of each transaction. You can explore the full range of Pulse settings in the Apollo Pulse Settings or P6X Pulse Settings documentation as applicable.

For Apollo family devices, an additional Pulse board is required. The Pulse board required for connection is an additional accessory supplied by Payter. Please be aware that custom boards are not supported.
