Updating to and from this version

Platform versions starting from 1.1.7 use Desync as the underlying mechanism for managing and synchronizing software updates, whereas earlier versions were based on OSTree. Desync is used to efficiently synchronize and transfer the files required for software updates between systems.

As a result, updating from an earlier platform version to 1.1.7 or later may take longer than usual, as the update mechanism changes from OSTree to Desync. The same applies when downgrading from 1.1.7 or later to an earlier platform version, as this requires switching back from Desync to OSTree.

This is expected behavior and does not indicate an issue with the update process.

Firmware 1.1.7-b183​

Enhancements​

  • Desync software management introduced, replacing OSTree and providing improvements in memory usage during Apollo operation
  • LAN/Ethernet recovery mechanism introduced. Where a configuration change prevents connectivity, or connectivity is unstable, this is detected and reversed e.g. applying invalid Static IP settings to a DHCP connected terminal
    • This fallback communication profile will be removed following a stable alternate connection i.e. one that has been connected without issue for at least 5 minutes
  • Some reductions in Apollo family power use have been implemented
    • Suspended terminals are now 'woken up' by touch screen and proximity sensor events

Issues Resolved​

  • Several booting and rebooting issues have been identified and resolved in this build
  • 180° rotated screens now have correctly definied limits
  • WiFi and other configuration details which contain 'secrets' are now accurately compared, without storing or exposing the secret information
  • Improved log request functionality and performance
  • Improvements to touch screen efffectiveness, reliability and performance have been added
    • Additional tools have been added to better log and diagnose touch screen performance
  • Modem connection status now accurately reported in System Menu.

Apollo UI 2.0.0-329​

Enhancements​

  • ApolloX Light (AXL) support added
    • WiFi options removed from AXL Service Menu, as this terminal type does not include WiFi support
    • Additional changes to AXL Service Menu, reflecting this terminal's functional offering
  • Screen scorlling occurs less; Specifically, it no longer occurs unless it is needed
  • Dynamic Image support added
    • A properly configured terminal can communicate with a remote server, via MyPayter, to update assets directly
    • This functionality requires significant investment and is only recommended where assets change frequently. Broadly, this is limited to some vending customers
